Tannaghmore Gardens, which encompasses Tannaghmore Animal Farm and a Barn Museum; offers guests plenty of activities for all to enjoy. Visitors of all ages are welcome to explore the grounds, and drop by the Animal Farm which offers close encounters with a variety of animals. For little children, it’s a pleasant tour with recognisable animals, but for older people, it’s a fantastic educational opportunity to learn all about the livestock from a bygone era, which includes cattle, sheep, pigs, goats, and chickens – all of which were typically found on Ulster farms 100 years ago! Irish Moiled cattle, the rarest breed of cattle in the world, and Dexter cattle, one of the tiniest cattle in the world, are only two of these breeds that are now uncommon or on the verge of extinction – a fantastic excursion for people who are studying this material in school. For the younger visitor, walk the well-trodden paths and enjoy a farm experience of Galway sheep, Saddleback pigs, poultry and rabbits. In addition, Tannaghmore Gardens has a playground for the youngsters to enjoy and burn off some energy. The Barn Museum offers delightful exhibits of bygone farming practises that groups can also enjoy – including forging and metal craft. Did you know? Tannaghmore Gardens is home to the Kissing Gate – legend has it that couples who kiss over the gate, will get married within a year! Couples who have their wish fulfilled often return to the Kissing Gate to pose for wedding photographs.
