Davey John's Forge is a family place above Mulroy Bay in Carrigart, named for the blacksmith, my grandfather, DJ; whose forge stood here for the best part of a century. I spent my childhood summers up here, and a few years ago set about bringing the old place back to life, first the cottage my grandparents lived in, then a hot-stone sauna in the old peat shed, then two log cabins on the rise behind, each with its own hot tub looking out over the bay. The idea was simple one - create a space that is peaceful and quiet, and genuinely well looked-after, where dogs are welcome and you deal with a real person rather than a front desk. We're restoring the old workshop next, as a place for guests to gather, converse or simply relax.
